Changes to NSW District Forecast Boundaries

From Wednesday 1 September 2010 a number of service enhancements will be introduced in New South Wales to provide an improved level of service. In response to community feedback the Bureau is providing more detail about expected weather conditions across the State.

Changes to Weather District Boundaries

There have been adjustments to the boundaries of some southern NSW districts to enhance both the forecast and warning services to those areas. People living in areas where the boundaries have changed should ensure they are accessing the weather warnings relevant to their location.

  • The Southern Tablelands District is split in two to allow more precise descriptions of weather conditions. The northern half will retain the name Southern Tablelands. The southern half will now be known as the Snowy Mountains District serving both the Alpine communities and the wider Snowy Mountains region.
  • The Riverina District is larger and follows the Local Government Boundaries. Previously the eastern boundary ran though the centre of both Wagga Wagga and Albury. Both these regional centres will now lie within the Riverina District.
  • The Central West Slopes and Plains District extends further south.
  • The South West Slopes District is now smaller.
  • The South Coast district is slightly reduced to remove some of the very elevated terrain.
  • The Sydney Metropolitan area is increased slightly to include Campbelltown and Camden.
  • See also the technical information about the Bureau of Meteorology boundaries.
