Friday, 1 October 2004 MONTHLY CLIMATE SUMMARY - ACT Welcome return to normal rainfall in ACT in SeptemberRainfall was close to average in the ACT in September this year, but daily maximum and minimum temperatures were above average. Rainfall: A total of 48.0 millimetres of rain was recorded at Canberra Airport in September, close to the average of 52.7 mm. Rain was recorded on 10 days, which is average. Rainfall across the territory was generally between 40 and 60 mm, with the higher totals to the south and west. The highest total was 74.0 mm at Corin Dam. The lowest was 36.8 mm at Gungahlin. There were four thunderstorm days at the airport, well above the long-term average of one day, and there was one day of hail compared with the average of none. Temperature: The mean daily maximum temperature of 17.1 degrees Celsius was above the long-term average of 16.0 degrees. The mean daily minimum of 4.1 degrees was also above the average of 3.1. There were 10 frost days in September, three fewer than normal. The mean monthly temperature of 10.6 degrees was well above the average of 9.6. The mean daily sunshine of 7.4 hours a day was marginally less than the average of 7.5 hr/day. Other: There were three fog days in September (the average), two strong wind days compared with the average of three, and a mean daily wind run of 208 kilometres a day compared with the average of 226.6 km/day. The monthly evaporation of 108.8 mm was slightly less than the average of 112.8 mm. The mean daily pressure of 1019.8 hectopascals was greater than the average of 1017.8 hPa.
