MEDIA STATEMENT - NSW REGIONAL OFFICE

Large southerly swells and dangerous surf conditions expected along the NSW coast

The Bureau of Meteorology is alerting the public to large swells and dangerous surf conditions forecast for much of the NSW coast this weekend.

A deep low pressure system, located in the far southern Tasman Sea (see synoptic chart below), is generating large southerly swells which will reach the southern NSW coast on Saturday morning and extend to the far north coast by Sunday. These swells will continue for the remainder of the weekend with resultant dangerous surf conditions expected, especially on south facing beaches.

Mr Rob Webb, Manager of the Bureau’s NSW Weather Services, advises beach-goers and other marine users to exercise caution and to monitor up-to-date forecasts, observations and warnings from the Bureau of Meteorology for more information.
