MONTHLY CLIMATE SUMMARY - NORTHERN TERRITORY
2005 witnessed a warm and dry May in the Territory. While not unusual, the dry month in southern parts of the Territory perpetuated a long-running dry spell, with numerous locations experiencing their driest 12-month period on record. Dry conditions are consistent with above average maximum and below average minimum temperatures, which were seen over much of the Territory in May 2005. Maximum temperatures were generally above average, particularly through the Alice Springs region, where monthly-means were 2-3oC above average. Minimum temperatures were mixed, with the southern parts of the Alice Springs region being warmer than average, while most areas further north were cooler than average.
Maps displaying recent temperature and rainfall patterns can be seen on the Bureau’s web site.
