MONTHLY CLIMATE SUMMARY - NORTHERN TERRITORY
Cool conditions prevailed over most of the Territory during July, as they did in May and June, making this dry season so far unusually cool Territory wide. Most weather observing stations recorded below average monthly mean maximum and minimum temperatures, and several cold-temperature records were broken. The cooler temperatures have largely been associated with cooler, drier air being transported north from more southern parts of the country. Interestingly though, a widespread rainfall event occurred around the middle of the month, giving record rains to some parts of the Top End and central Australia. The rain in southern parts of the Territory eased some emerging rainfall deficiencies, though the rainfall was least in the southeast, where the largest rainfall deficiencies have been.
A table of Territory extremes,
