MEDIA RELEASE - SOUTH AUSTRALIAN REGIONAL OFFICE

Adelaide has experienced its 3rd warmest and 9th wettest June on record.

June 2005 rainfall

Adelaide’s rainfall for June 2005 was 141.8 mm, recorded on 13 days. This is 58.7 mm above the normal of 83.1 mm on 16 days. This has been the wettest June since 1981 when 174.6 mm was recorded, and the 9th wettest June ever recorded in Adelaide. Last year 125.0mm was recorded in June on 21 days.

In the 24 hours to 9am on 21 June 2005 Adelaide received 54.6mm of rain, the highest daily rainfall for June since rainfall records began in Adelaide in 1839.

The total rainfall for the first half of 2005 was 212.2 mm, which is 33.1 mm below the long-term average of 245.3mm. Last year 245.8 mm was recorded over the same period.

June 2005 temperatures

The mean maximum temperature for June 2005 was 17.8°C, which is 1.7°C above the normal June mean maximum of 16.1°C. This has been the warmest mean maximum for June since 1967, when the mean maximum was 17.9°C, and the third warmest June mean maximum ever recorded in Adelaide. The warmest June mean maximum was 20.4°C and occurred in 1957. The mean maximum last year was 16.3°C.

The mean minimum temperature for June 2005 was 9.1°C, which is 0.9°C above the average June mean minimum of 8.2°C. Last June, the mean minimum was 9.6°C.
