MONTHLY CLIMATE SUMMARY - SOUTH AUSTRALIAN REGIONAL OFFICE 2005 - Warmest on record in South Australia2005 was the warmest year on record in South Australia, however annual rainfall across the state was close to average.Annual Temperatures The mean temperature over South Australia was 20.5°C and 1.05°C above normal making 2005 the warmest year since reliable records began in 1910. It is the 13th consecutive year that the State wide mean annual temperature has been above average. The record annual mean temperature and the continuation of above average annual temperatures across the State is further evidence of climate change. The annual maximum temperature across the state of 28.1°C, was 1.4°C above normal and also the warmest ever recorded. The annual minimum temperature of 12.9°C was 0.7°C above the normal and the fourth warmest on record. Adelaide had an annual mean temperature of 17.6°, 0.6°C above the normal of 17°C and the 10th warmest year on record. The warmest annual mean temperature of 18.1°C occurred in 1914 and 1921. Whilst natural climate variability means there is no guarantee that next year will be another record, the trends indicate that there is a high likelihood that temperatures will again be above average.
