Figures released today by the Bureau of Meteorology in its Tasmanian annual climate summary for 2006 show that many sites in northern, eastern and southeastern Tasmania have had their driest year on record. The summary gives many details for sites across the state, including summaries and extremes for the year.
Also released today is the Tasmanian monthly climate summary for December 2006, giving some details of the weather during December 2006.
These climate summaries have replaced media releases as the Bureau of Meteorology's main collation of such information. The summaries will normally be issued on the first working day of each month, once all the relevant observations are received (for example, maximum temperatures for the last day of the month are not available before the thermometers are checked at 9 am on the 1st). The summaries will cover what has happened across the whole state. There is an archive of earlier months, an archive of earlier seasons and also earlier years.
A statement on the climate for all of Australia in 2006 is also available.
