Severe weather likely for eastern Victoria and south-east NSW at the weekend

The Bureau of Meteorology is alerting the public to a developing weather system that could bring severe weather to eastern Victoria and the south-east of New South Wales this weekend.

A low pressure system, forecast to form off the NSW south coast on Saturday, has the potential to bring heavy rainfall and gale-force winds to parts of the South Coast and Southern Tablelands in NSW and eastern Victoria. Gale to storm-force winds and very rough seas are likely to affect the adjacent coastal waters zones. Blizzards are likely across the alpine regions in NSW and Victoria.

It is too early at this stage to predict the precise location of the heaviest rainfall and strongest winds, as this will depend on the eventual position and movement of the centre of the low. However people are advised to monitor up-to-date forecasts and warnings for more information as the weather system develops. Flood Watches have been issued for the NSW South Coast, Northeast Victoria and East Gippsland.
