A feature of the month was the wide nature of the fluctuations in temperature. Nights were slightly colder than usual, and 15 November saw snowfalls down to low levels (including the Dandenongs on the outskirts of Melbourne). Days were warmer than normal, and on November 21 & 22, temperatures rose over 40 deg C in the northwest of the State.

November 2006 saw high pressure systems regularly moving from far south of Western Australia (with very cold surges around their eastern flanks resulting in cold weather over Victoria), to the ENE towards the Tasman Sea. Once over the Tasman Sea, the anticyclones drove hot air from over the inland across Victoria.
Melbourne received 24.6 mm of rain (normal: 56.9 mm); the mean maximum temperature was 22.5 deg C (normal: 21.8 deg C), and the mean minimum temperature was 12.1 deg C (normal: 12.0 deg C).
