Changes to weather observations pages

The Bureau’s Capital City Area Observations, Latest Observations and Latest Coastal Observations pages for each state have been revised.  As well as providing a nationally consistent format the new pages also present additional information and links to related pages. Details of the changes are provided below.

Please note that the old pages will continue to be available until 31 August 2006 to allow users to make a smooth transition to the new pages. A notice has been included in each of the superseded pages, including links to the new pages. Please update your bookmarks.

Capital city area observations pages

The Bureau's capital city area weather observations pages have been revised to extend national product consistency. The new format also presents additional information and links to related pages, including clickable capital city area maps and capital city area station pages.

The capital city pages include Automatic Weather Station and manual observations from stations in the capital city area. Reporting schedules vary according to station type. Only stations that reported in the previous 3 hours are listed. Reports that are more than 75 minutes old are shown in italics and are coloured blue green. For stations that have high frequency reporting schedules, ‘highest’ and ‘lowest’ temperature and wind gust are also reported.

Weather station pages and clickable maps for capital city areas

Weather observations from the previous 72 hours are available for each station in the capital city area. The most recent report is listed at the top of the table. The station pages also provide links to corresponding daily weather observations summaries from the previous month.

Stations that have not reported in the previous three hours remain linked from the maps and also from the state 'latest weather observation' pages.

The superseded capital city area pages will continue to be available until August 31 st 2006 to allow users to make a smooth transition to the new pages. A notice has been included in each of the superseded pages, including links to the new pages. Please update your bookmarks.

Changes to Latest Weather Observations state pages

State observations pages and associated station pages have been updated to be consistent with more recent pages and production processes. Changes include the addition of Apparent Temperature, and the station pages also include some station details and a link to corresponding daily observations summaries for the previous month. A small number of stations do not have summaries available. These station pages link to a state list of stations to enable selection of an adjacent station.

State clickable maps have also been updated to link to the new page addresses.

Changes to Latest Coastal Observations station pages

The 'Latest Coastal Observations' pages for each state and coastal station include some minor updates. Station pages now include some station details and most pages link to corresponding daily observation summaries for the previous month. A small number of stations do not have corresponding station summaries, so those pages link to a state list of stations to enable selection of an adjacent station.

The 'About coastal observations' page, linked from the top of all coastal observation pages, now includes summary information about each coastal station. Some of the coastal stations are not on the immediate coastline, so this information can be useful to help identify potential differences between coastal conditions and the observations made at the station site.
