This Month's Feature

Water and the Land: http://www.bom.gov.au/watl/

Sample image of Water and the Land pagesThe Bureau of Meteorology's new web pages combine weather and climate information for Primary Industry and Natural Resource Management.

Features of the Water and the Land (WATL) site include:

  • Rainfall forecast maps
  • Chance of rainfall maps
  • Latest and past rainfall information
  • Easy access to radar and satellite data
  • Evaporation data and maps
  • Seasonal climate information

The rainfall forecasts are generated by a combination of different computer models - by so-called ensemble forecasting. The technique has been developed by the Bureau's Research Centre over a number of years and has proved more accurate than relying on individual weather models. To learn more, read About Rainfall.
