A large cloud band with embedded thunderstorms extends from central Australia
through to the southeast of the country as a result of an influx of tropical
moisture interacting with a surface trough and upper level jet stream. A large
area of convection with thunderstorms over the Northern Territory is being
driven by afternoon surface heating along the most northern extension of this

Further south, a cold front moving towards Tasmania behind the trough is driving
low cloud over SA in the cold air west of the front.

The rest of the continent is mostly cloud free.
