A trough extends to the northwest from the bight to a low in the Pilbara region.
Another trough stretches southeast from a low over the northern Tasman Sea.
Another trough extends southeast from the Torres Strait Islands and large band
of cloud with embedded thunderstorms is associated with this trough.

A high in the Tasman Sea is driving moist onshore flow along the coastlines of
New South Wales and southern Queensland, producing areas of low cloud. Another
high to the west of Perth is driving moist onshore flow along the southern
coastlines of Western Australia, producing areas of low cloud.

A broad cloud band stretching from waters south of the bight to south of
Tasmania is associated with a cold front. Majority of the precipitation is
situated south of Tasmania.

Isolated thunderstorms are expected to develop inland in western Queensland
during the afternoon.

The rest of the continent is mostly cloud free.
