A northwest cloud band with areas of rain, showers and embedded thunderstorms extends from the Kimberley through the interior of the continent. This is the result of significant upper level and surface troughs. The surface trough connects to a deepening low over the Bight near the southeastern Western Australia coast. High level jet stream cloud is also visible streaming off the main cloud band across southern Queensland and northern New South Wales, then out over the Tasman Sea.
Low level cloud is dissipating over the southeast corner this morning as a weak ridge moves over the area, while any remaining isolated showers and thunderstorms have now moved offshore from the southern New South Wales coast into the Tasman Sea.
Elsewhere, a deep low remains slow moving over the eastern Tasman Sea with widespread showers and thunderstorms, while a series of cold fronts is tracking across the Southern Ocean well to the south of the continent.
