Issued at 11:45 am EST Thursday on 24 April 2014

Scattered thunderstorms and showers over the Arafura Sea are associated with a weak tropical low. Isolated thunderstorms and scattered showers over the Gulf of Carpentaria and the Coral Sea with a band of middle level cloud streaming over Cape York Peninsular is all associated with a broad area of low pressure in conjunction with a trough in the middle levels of the atmosphere.

A cloud band with isolated showers over Victoria's far northeast is due to a passing cold front. Isolated showers and one or two thunderstorms affecting Tasmania and the open waters in the region is associated with the cold air instability in the wake of the cold front.

Middle and high level cloud streaming across much of the eastern Indian Ocean and over the central parts of the WA coast is associated with a low pressure system located further to the west.
