A broad low pressure trough over the Pilbara region of WA extends over the NT,
central Queensland and NSW triggering widespread thunderstorm activity across
the north of the country, most of QLD and northeast NSW. Humid northwesterly
winds feeding into the trough has further aided in the development of the
thunderstorms over the tropics.

Further south, cloud free areas over the southern and western interior has been
influenced by a ridge extending from a high centred west of Perth over the
Indian Ocean. Smoke from fires over southeast Australia can be seen extending
over the Tasman Sea.

A cold front is moving across Tasmania with a broad westerly flow following
close behind.
