A trough of low pressure near the western WA coastline is generating a middle
level cloud band with active thunderstorms. A second trough extending from
northern WA across the NT Top End to the Gulf of Carpentaria links up with an
embedded low pressure system within the Monsoon Trough. Large areas of
convective cloud and thunderstorms are being generated by this tropical low
throughout the Gulf, as well as over Cape York Peninsula.

Further thunderstorm activity can be seen over southcentral QLD near another
surface low pressure trough.

A dominant high pressure system to the south of the country is generating an
onshore easterly airstream and low cloud for coastal NSW.
