A broad trough extends from northern WA, through the interior of the NT and
southwest QLD to northeast NSW. The trough then extends further to a low
pressure system over the Tasman Sea. The instability associated with the trough
combined with a warm moist airmass is resulting in middle level cloud with
widespread showers and thunderstorms across central parts of the country
including through northern WA, southern NT, northern SA, southern QLD and
northeastern NSW.

Regions of QLD and the NT northeast of the trough are mainly hot and dry with
thunderstorms over southeast QLD.

Patchy middle level cloud is visible about Tasmania and Bass Strait assocoiated
with a weak trough.

A monsoon trough and a weak tropical low south of Java are enhancing the shower
and thunderstorm activity in the region.
