A broad area of low pressure over northern Australia has led to extensive areas
of low to middle level cloud with embedded thunderstorms over central and
northern Western Australia, the NT and northwest Queensland. High cloud from
this system, generated with the thunderstorms, is evident over central

Low cloud can be seen over the south coast of WA in a moist southerly airstream
directed by a ridge of high pressure.

A trough of low pressure over southeast Austrlaia combined with an upper level
jet stream has produced the cloud band over eastern Victoria and southern New
South Wales. Thunderstorms are also observed in this cloud band.

While a secondary cloud band over Tasmania, western Victoria and southeast South
Australia is due to a cold front. This cloud mostly consist of low to middle
level cloud and a large area of cold unstable air behind the front is evident
with the speckled cell based cloud.
