Issued at 11:47 am EST Thursday on 17 April 2014

Thunderstorm activity can be seen over Cape York Peninsula and the Gulf of Carpentaria.

A deep low pressure system lies over the Tasman Sea, bringing rain areas and scattered thunderstorms to New Zealand.

The remainder of Australia is mostly cloud free due to a ridge of high pressure, except for some areas of low cloud about the southern coastline.
