IDY28000 Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology Bureau National Operations Centre Satellite Notes for 0600UTC Chart Issued at 7:01 pm EDT Monday on 18 January 2021 Tropical monsoon activity continues to be visible in the north of the country with convective cloud and thunderstorms. This particularly visible around Cyclone Kimi off the coast near Cairns in QLD with visible cyclonic rotation. A trough along the WA coast is also producing convective cloud and isolated thunderstorms. This trough extends across the NT, central Qld and in to northeast NSW bringing a band of mid-high cloud through these regions and isolated thunderstorms in southeast Qld where a large stream of mid-high cloud is streaming out across northeast NSW. A high pressure system south of the Bight is directing low cloud over coastal parts of southeast WA, SA, Vic and Tas. The remainder of the continent is mostly clear.
