IDY28000 Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology Bureau National Operations Centre Satellite Notes for 1800UTC Chart Issued at 6:21 am EDT Monday on 18 January 2021 Tropical monsoon activity continues in the north of the country, with tropical Cyclone Kimi, off the coast, near Cairns in QLD. The monsoon trough lies along the north of the country with another tropical low centred near the Top End in Northern Territory. These features are producing active convective cloud and thunderstorms. A trough along the WA coast is also causing some enhanced convection and isolated thunderstorms. A band of mid to high level cloud stretches from central NT, through northeastern SA and into southwestern QLD and northern NSW. A moist southwesterly flow is bringing low cloud to Tasmania, eastern Vic and far southern NSW while a high pressure ridge in the Bight is bringing mostly clear conditions to southern WA, South Australia, much of Victoria and southern parts of the Northern Territory.
