An extensive band of middle and high level cloud, due to the interaction between
a surface trough and an upper level trough, extends from central Australia to
southern Queensland, South Australia, New South Wales and into the Tasman Sea.

Low level cloud is evident near the tropical Queensland coast and along parts of
the south coast of Western Australia and South Australia and is due to onshore
flows driven by a ridge of high pressure with centres in the Tasman Sea and
south of Albany, WA. Afternoon convective cloud covers much of inland
Queensland.

A band of middle level cloud associated with a cold front stretches from the
Eyre Peninsula (SA) to the Victoria/SA border. Extensive rainfall and isolated
thunderstorms are occurring near the front. More cold, unstable air lies to its
west, indicated by the area of patchy cloud. Another front is crossing southern
Bight waters towards Tasmania, where patchy cloud is producing isolated showers
in the northwest.

Some thin high level cloud is streaming over northern parts of the continent.
Otherwise skies are mostly clear over northern and western parts of the
continent under the high pressure ridge.
