Satellite Notes for 0600UTC chart on 31 October 2014

Issued at 6:25 pm EDT Friday on 31 October 2014

A broad area of thunderstorm activity is seen across eastern districts of Western Australia, through the west of the Northern Territory and over much of South Australia. These storms are triggered by a surface trough, with an upper level trough lying over central WA.

Afternoon thunderstorms are being triggered by another surface trough through the interior of New South Wales and about southern Queensland.

High cloud is seen over much of eastern Australia, having been generated from thunderstorm activity over central Australia over the last few days.

In the south, a large mass of high cloud is streaming over Tasmania from a pair of cold fronts, currently to the west of the state. The northern portion of the first front, and its associated cloud band, is seen moving eastwards through southern WA.
