A large cloud band ahead of a broad upper trough extends from the Pilbara region of WA into the interior and across most of northern and central Australia. The cloud band originates from an area of convection around a tropical low near the Cocos Islands.
Further south, a trough and a low pressure system in the Great Australian Bight region is generating convective cloud with associated shower and thunderstorm activity. An upper trough is causing mid level cloud over eastern SA, NSW and northwest Victoria.
In a southerly airstream, areas of low cloud are visible over coastal regions of Tasmania, eastern Victoria, New South Wales and southwestern WA.
