A complex low pressure system is moving away from the north coast of New South Wales into the Tasman Sea. Much of the associated low cloud and shower activity along the northern New South Wales and southeast Queensland coasts is now easing. However a significant cloud band associated with this low continues to extend from the Coral Sea southeast to the North Island of New Zealand, and this is bringing showers and thunderstorms.
Otherwise, a broad high pressure system centred over South Australia dominates the synoptic pattern over Australia. This is keeping skies mostly clear apart from some patchy low cloud over the Bight and the southeast corner of the mainland. Some patchy low cloud near the west coast of Western Australia is due to a weak surface trough offshore.
A cold front crossing Tasmania is bringing low cloud and isolated showers.
A broad area of convective cloud lies over tropical waters to the northwest of Western Australia.
