A complex low pressure system is moving east across the Tasman Sea, extending a significant cloud band southeast from the Coral Sea to New Zealand. This system is associated with showers and thunderstorms. Some patchy low cloud and isolated showers remain along the northern New South Wales and southeast Queensland coasts in a southerly onshore flow.
Elsewhere, a broad high pressure system centred over South Australia dominates the synoptic pattern. This is keeping skies mostly clear across the continent apart from some patchy low cloud over the Bight and the southeast corner of the mainland. A cold front crossing the southern tip of Tasmania is bringing low cloud and isolated showers.
The band of cloud over Western Australia, bringing areas of rain and isolated showers, is due to a weak surface and upper level trough offshore. A broad area of convective cloud lies over tropical waters to the northwest of Western Australia.
