Issued at 5:15 pm EST Thursday on 17 April 2014

Thunderstorm activity can be seen over the Gulf of Carpentaria and about the eastern Top End of the Northern Territory.

Some streaks of high cloud are seen over the southwest of Western Australia and also about South Australia. Patches of low level cloud crossing the southwest coast of WA are associated with a cold front, with a deep cold pool well to the south of SA.

A deep low pressure system lies over the eastern Tasman Sea, bringing rain areas and scattered thunderstorms to New Zealand.

The remainder of Australia is mostly cloud free due to a ridge of high pressure.
