The cloud band stretching from the Coral Sea through the Tasman Sea and westward
to Tasmania is associated with the passage of a significant cold front wrapping
around a complex low pressure system. This low system is centred off eastern
Bass Strait leading to overcast conditions over vast areas of southeast

A deep cold southerly on-shore flow over South Australia has led to a large
field of convective cloud over coastal and adjacent inland areas of SA.

Cloud over northwest coastal areas of Western Australia is extending from
convective activity over the Indian Ocean. The afternoon heat over tropical
northern Australia has generated showers and thunderstorms for the Top End and
Cape York Peninsula.

The cloud band moving over coastal southwest WA is associated with a weak cold
front passing through.

The remainder of the continent is mostly clear due to a ridge of high pressure
extending from southeast WA through central Australia to Queensland.
