A northwest cloud band with areas of rain, showers and embedded thunderstorms extends from the Kimberley, through the central and eastern interior of the continent, to a low pressure system near Adelaide. This has been generated by significant upper level and surface troughs. High level jet stream cloud is streaming off the main cloud band out over the Coral Sea.
Tasmania is mostly clear under the influence of weak ridge. A ridge is also resulting in clear skies over most of southern Western Australia.
Elsewhere, a deep low near New Zealand remains slow moving with widespread showers and thunderstorms.
