IDY28000 Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology Bureau National Operations Centre Satellite Notes for 1800UTC Chart Issued at 8:45 am EDT Thursday on 09 February 2023 Severe Tropical Cyclone "Freddy" is situated well northwest off the coast of Western Australia in the Indian Ocean while Tropical Cyclone "Gabrielle" lies to the east of Australia in the northern Coral Sea. Both systems have bands of active convective cloud surrounding them. A trough extending from the eastern end of the Top End through the Gulf of Carpentaria and into the Coral Sea is associated with scattered cloud in the region. Another trough through central New South Wales is bringing convective activity to the area particularly along the southeastern extent of the trough. A broad layer of cloud is present to the north of a trough that extends from eastern Northern Territory into inland Queensland. This trough is generating thick cloud and thunderstorms along its length. A trough extending through central WA is bringing low level cloud to the area. Low level cloud is also present along the coastlines of southern Western Australia, eastern Victoria, New South Wales, parts of Queensland, and Tasmania due to a moist onshore flow. The rest of the country is mostly cloud free.
