An extensive band of middle and high level cloud, due to the interaction between
a surface trough and an upper level trough, extends from central Australia to
southern Queensland, South Australia, New South Wales and Victoria.

A trough lies just west of New Zealand. Speckled cloud can be seen in the
unstable cold air behind the trough covering much of the Tasman Sea.

Low level cloud is evident near the tropical Queensland coast and along parts of
the south coast of the continent and is due to onshore flows driven by a ridge
of high pressure with centres in the Tasman Sea, over southern NSW and south of
Albany, WA.

A band of middle level cloud associated with a cold front is approaching the
South Australian coast. Isolated thunderstorms are occurring near the front.
More cold, unstable air lies west of this front, indicated by the area of patchy

Some high level cloud is streaming over northern parts of the continent.
Otherwise skies are mostly clear over northern and western parts of the
continent under the high pressure ridge.
