A strong cold front that links to a low pressure system to the south of the Tasman Sea is approaching the coast of South Australia, western Victoria and Tasmania. Low pressure systems and trough are embedded in the vigorous westerly airstream over the Southern Ocean to the west of this front.
The Sub-Tropical Ridge, or the belt linking the high pressure systems, stretches across the middle of the continent and maintains mainly clear skies.
Patchy middle level cloud is visible over the northwest of Western Australia.
Areas of low cloud are over southwest Western Australia and the north tropical and central coast of Queensland in a moist onshore airstream.
