Issued at 12:14 pm EDT Tuesday on 09 February 2016
The monsoon trough and a low in the Coral Sea is triggering an extensive area of
showers and thunderstorms.
A low pressure system near the base of the Cape York Peninsula and a trough
across the tropical north of the country is generating shower and thunderstorm
activity over northern Queensland.
A high pressure ridge over the south of the continent is maintaining mostly
clear conditions across the southern interior. Low cloud visible near the
coastal parts of South Australia, Victoria, NSW, Queensland and Tasmania is
associated with a moist southeasterly flow.
From 4 Dec 2015 MTSAT data is no longer received via direct broadcast. The Bureau continues to receive MTSAT imagery via FTP, however this has a greater latency. Please use the new high resolution satellite viewer for superior performance.
