A broad area of middle and high level cloud extends from the Indian Ocean and
central parts of Western Australia across to the southeast of the continent and
the Tasman Sea. This is due to an infeed of moisture ahead of a strong upper
level trough.

A vigorous cold front is now approaching Melbourne. Frontal cloud stretches from
the Eyre Peninsula to Tasmania. A large area of "speckled" cloud south of the
Bight is the cold air behind this front.

Low cloud lies over the WA south coast in the wake of this system.

Cloud from thunderstorm activity is over parts of Cape York Peninsula.
