The Sub-Tropical Ridge, or the belt linking the high pressure systems, stretches across the middle of the continent. Embedded cold fronts with associated cloud are south of this in the vigorous westerly airstream over the Southern Ocean and Tasmania.

A line of jetstream cloud stretches from northeast New South Wales over the Tasman Sea.

Areas of low cloud are over southwest Western Australia in a moist onshore airstream.
