Satellite Notes for the 1200UTC chart on 01 August 2014

Issued at 11:16 pm EST Friday on 01 August 2014

A strong cold front that links to a low pressure system to the south of New Zealand is moving across the Tasman Sea. Troughs embedded in the vigorous southwesterly airstream behind this front are bringing showers and isolated thunderstorms to Tasmania, Victoria and southern New South Wales. These will continue to ease overnight.

Very patchy high level cloud is visible over the Kimberley region of Western Australia.

Areas of low cloud extend over the southern parts of South Australia in a moist onshore airstream.

A ridge of high pressure stretches across the middle of the continent and maintains generally clear skies.
