A complex low pressure system and upper trough over the Tasman Sea are generating a significant cloud band with embedded thunderstorms, which extends from the Coral Sea down to New Zealand. While some patchy low cloud and isolated showers remain along the northern New South Wales and southeast Queensland coasts in a southerly onshore flow.
A band of cloud over Western Australia, which is bringing isolated showers, is due to a weak surface and upper level trough offshore. A broad area of convective cloud lies over tropical waters to the northwest of Western Australia.
A slow moving high pressure system centred over South Australia dominates the synoptic pattern. This is keeping skies mostly clear across the remainder of the continent, apart from some patchy low cloud over the Bight and the southeast corner of the country.
