A band of middle and high level cloud extends from the southeast of Western
Australia, across coastal South Australia, over Victoria and New South Wales.
This cloud is due to a surface low pressure trough. A cold front now lies over
the Tasman Sea, with a mass of cloud extending southeastwards from the coast of

A second, stronger cold front lies to the distant southwest of Tasmania,
although the frontal band of cloud is not yet fully developed. A significant
pool of cold air lies over the Southern Ocean behind this front.

Patchy low cloud over the Queensland's east coast is the result of the southeast
trade wind flow. An extensive area of low cloud is seen over waters to the
southwest of WA and is trapped under ridge of high pressure.
