Satellite Notes for the 1200UTC chart on 29 August 2014

Issued at 11:00 pm EST Friday on 29 August 2014

Areas of cloud with isolated thunderstorms over the Tasman Sea are associated with a deep low pressure system and an upper level disturbance. Moist onshore flow has brought areas of low level cloud to coastal New South Wales and isolated parts of the Queensland coast.

The cloud band crossing southwest WA is associated with a slow moving cold front extending into the Southern Ocean. High level cloud can be seen ahead of this front in the Bight.

Low cloud remains over parts of southern Victoria trapped beneath the temperature inversion. While in the north, middle level clouds can be seen streaming off the Arafura Sea over the northeast of NT.

The remainder of the country is mostly clear due to the presence of a high pressure ridge.
