Widespread showers and thunderstorms are evident over northeast NSW and
southeast QLD. This convective activity is produced by a high pressure system
over the south Tasman Sea directing a moist easterly flow into an offshore low
pressure trough that is enhanced by a trough in hte middle levels of the
atmopshere. Further south, where the trough is less prominent, the moist onshore
flow has led to coastal patchy low cloud conditions for southeast Australia. 

Extensive middle level cloud over the Pilbara and Gascoyne regions of WA was
generated by a low pressure system that has since moved further west and
offshore. The patchy cloud bands over southern WA are formed by the passage of a
series of low pressure troughs. 

In the north, humid conditions combined with a broad area of low pressure over
northern Australia has produced showers and thunderstorms from the interior of
WA through the NT to western QLD.

Elsewhere, the subtropical ridge of high pressure is keeping most of southern
and central Australia clear.
