Issued at 5:57 am EST Friday on 18 April 2014

Thunderstorm activity can be seen over the Gulf of Carpentaria and about the Top End of the Northern Territory.

Some streaks of high cloud are seen over the southwest of Western Australia and also about South Australia. A weak cold front with associated band of cloud is moving eastwards towards Victoria and Tasmania.

A deep low pressure system lies over the eastern Tasman Sea, bringing rain areas and scattered thunderstorms to New Zealand.

The remainder of Australia is mostly cloud free due to a ridge of high pressure.
