A surface trough extends from the Pilbara district of Western Australia through
central South Australia, New South Wales and Victoria to a deepening low
pressure centre over northeastern Tasmania. An extensive area of middle level
cloud is seen in the vicinity of the trough, with thunderstorm activity embedded
in this cloud.

Low cloud is seen south of the trough over the remainder of SA, VIC and
Tasmania.

A moist north to northwest windflow covers a broad area to the north of the
trough, triggering thunderstorms over northern WA, the Top End in the Northern
Territory and the northern parts of Queensland.
