A large cloud band ahead of a broad upper trough extends from the Kimberley region of WA into the Northern Territory and most of the northeastern Australia. The cloud band originates from an area of convection in the north coupled with warmer than normal sea surface temperatures.

Further south, a trough and a low pressure system in the Great Australian Bight is generating convective cloud with associated shower and thunderstorm activity. An upper trough is causing mid level cloud over eastern SA and central NSW.

Areas of low cloud in the southerly airflow are visible over coastal regions of Tasmania, Victoria and southern WA.
