A broad trough extends from northern WA, through the interior of the NT and
western QLD to northeast NSW. The trough then extends further to a low pressure
system over the Tasman Sea. The instability associated with the trough combined
with a warm moist airmass is resulting in a middle level cloud band with
embedded thunderstorms across central parts of the country including through
northern WA, southern NT, northern SA, southern QLD and northeastern NSW.

Another cloud band with large amounts of thunderstorm activity extends along a
surface trough that stretches from central Western Australia and joins to a cold
front over southeast South Australia to a low west of Tasmania.

A monsoon trough and a weak tropical low south of Java are enhancing the shower
and thunderstorm activity off the northwest of the country.
