A series of low pressure troughs over northern and central Australia are drawing
moisture from the tropics into a broad area of cloud. This is triggering with
showers and thunderstorms across the north of the country.

A moist northeasterly airflow, directed onto the continent's east coast by a
high pressure system in the Tasman Sea, is producing patchy low cloud along
coastal and adjacent areas in Queensland and New South Wales.

Further west, a weak cold front and its associated cloud band has reached
southwestern Western Australia.
