Low to middle level cloud over southeast Australia is associated with a deep
westerly surge of cold air being directed by a complex low pressure system
centred over the south Tasman Sea.

In the north, middle level cloud over northwest Australia is the result of
tropical moisture being advected away from occasional thunderstorm activity
southwest of Java. While a moist southeasterly onshore flow has brought overcast
low cloud over the far northeast coast of Queensland.

In the west, a cloud band is tracking across southern WA. This cloud band is
associated with a cold front and developing low pressure system south of the
Bight.

The remainder of the continent is mostly clear due to a ridge of high pressure.
