A low pressure system over the Tasman Sea links, via a trough, to a complex low
pressure system over southeast Australia, producing extensive cloud and offshore
thunderstorms. This cloud band extends to the east and south of Tasmania,
wrapping around another low pressure system.

High based cloud can be seen over central Australia due to an upper level
trough. This cloud is also observed streaming across Queensland captured by the
subtropical jet stream. 

In the southwest, the cloud band crossing southern WA is associated with a cold
front crossing WA today. Further east, a high pressure system over southwest SA
is directing an onshore flow over SA and western Victoria leading to patchy low
