A humid and unstable air mass combined with an active Monsoon Trough over
northern NT with embedded tropical lows enhancing shower and thunderstorm
activity across the Kimberley, northern NT, Gulf of Carpentaria and Cape York

Elsewhere a broad area of low pressure extends through the interior of the
continent with a surface trough triggering showers and thunderstorms embedded
within a thick cloud band that stretches from central WA through central
Australia across NSW.

A ridge of high pressure extends across the Bight to eastern Victoria, leaving
southern areas of the continent largely cloud free.
