The BLUElink project is a joint initiative between the Bureau of Meteorology, CSIRO and Wealth from Ocean flagship and the Royal Australian Navy to develop ocean forecasting capability within the Australian Government for the benefit of the maritime user community and the Austrlian public.
Commencing in August 2007, the Bureau of Meteorology has supported an operational ocean prediction system that was developed by the BLUElink project. This system delivers real-time information about the full three dimensional ocean state (i.e., the temperature and salinity) and the three-dimensional ocean circulation.
For further information on BLUElink:
The Bureau of Meteorology and CSIRO produce a range of products and services that include:
Web services
A 7 day animation of the ocean state and circulation at the surface can be obtained via internet. All Australian states and territories adjacent to the coast can access their local ocean forecasts.

Data product services
(A) Operational data products
The Bureau of Meteorology can provide access to real-time data products from the ocean prediction system via a dedicated ftp server. The Bureau of Meteorology also maintain a data archive of the historical forecasts since August 2007. All new user enquries can also be provided
temporary access to a non-operational opendap service to sample and trial the BLUElink ocean forecast output from anywhere on the internet.
(B) Research forecast data products
CAWCR maintain archives of past ocean forecasts via an opendap research server for research use.
(C) Ocean reanalysis data products
CAWCR also maintain archives of ocean reanalyses of the past ocean conditions.
