Early career researchers and professionals in the ocean sciences and closely related fields and industries are invited to participate in the International Summer School for Observing, Assimilating and Forecasting the Ocean. Early career researchers and post-graduates in fields other than oceanography are encouraged to apply if they have a genuine interest in pursuing a career in this field. A limited number of places will be offered on a competitive basis to maximise the quality and diversity of participants. Other candidates will be considered subject to availability of places and demostrated ability to fund their participation.
Curriculum: The course curriculum will focus on ocean modelling (Physical), coupled Modelling, ocean data assimilation, ocean observing systems, ocean prediction systems and applications. As much as possible the course material will be self contained, however some familiarity with fundamentals of mathematics, statistics and the english language will be assumed.
The course material will be presented in the form of lectures and computer based tutorials. All students will recieve a copy of the lecture notes and related course material on CD during the course. Active participation will be encouraged throughout the lectures and tutorials. Participants will be asked to provide a presentation on the results from their tutorial/assignments. Participants should also prepare a short presentation (5 slides) on their research or current role prior to arrival.
